[Action]

[So Masaomi Kida has a plan today. Namely, he's out to kidnap (for her own good) Katara. There's a few times he could do this. He considers going for her before school... but he's not a morning person and neither is she. After school feels like too little time, so he's opted to pull her aside towards the end of lunch (to hopefully evade Sokka), saying that he has forgotten something (which'll later evolve into "show you something" among other excuses). Well, him and Linda (because he's taken to bringing the pichu along to school, lately) And from there... the adventure begins.

Hours of inane things ensue, not to mention a handful of not-quite arguments about how late it is getting. Feel free to run into them more or less anywhere: item shop, Azzip pizza, various floors of various community buildings,Rec Center, south side of town, north side of town, generally more or less anywhere. Chances are you won't even need to be the first to speak, because you run a good chance of running into them talking! This'll be any time between lunch break at school and oh, early evening

[So probably somewhere around 5:30ish, Katara finally ends up where she's supposed to be - her front porch. Or near enough. She's really already supposed to be inside cooking, so this is kind of pushing it. She'll just have to whip up something fast.

...and now what to say to Masaomi, who looks all together too pleased with himself.]

...I don't really know if I should thank you or hit you.

[When in doubt? Honesty.]

[Oh but he is. He even waves a hand, jovially rocking from one foot to the other]

Definitely thank! In fact, maybe a kiss on the cheek!

[Eyeroll.]

Oh really.

[Bold! Tsk, tsk. But she's amused.]

Seriously! You might even consider it polite!

[He leans in a bit, smirking still]

[She puts a hand on his shoulder to stop his advance.]

I think kidnappers aren't usually paid in kisses.

And what about charming young gentlemen here to give a girl a mental health day?

[he even tries for a suave voice here. He pushes just enough against her hands to remain roughly in place but the resistance is minimal]

[Oh no, not the suave voice. She has to struggle to keep back a laugh.

It doesn't work. Most of this sentence is said with laughter.]

You really think spending all day with you was good for my mental health?

[Because you drive her crazy, boy. And moreover, she doesn't approve of this tactic of you pushing against her in order to leave her hand on your shoulder. She drops her hand back to her side and remains ready to deal with those consequences.]

[The consequences are quick and obvious: Smooth and quick lean in to whisper this next part in her ear a bit more seriously]

You had fun, didn't you?

[Katara tenses at his sudden proximity, her eyes going wide.]

[Fortunately, she has time to swallow as he pulls away. She resists the urge to reach up and rub at that ear where he whispered. It tickles. And the mood feels oddly serious. She won't beat around the bush.]

...mostly.

[Still, she's slightly tense from that, it shows in her shoulders.]

Aaa...ah. To be honest, that's my own objective here, if it's only a "mostly" I can't give myself higher than a C.

[He says this sheepishly, but sincerely despite the joke on the end]

[She sighs a little and then moves to stand along side him, both now facing the door as she leans on the porch.]

It was a nice day. [Mostly. The incident with Sokka stands out in stark relief.] But you tricked me into coming with you, and you kept tricking me to get me to stay. I caught on after a while, but... you can't just keep tricking me. Buffy's right, it's fraud.

[Fraud, huh? A little lop-sided thing that can't decide if it's a smile or a smirk comes up on his lips as he looks sidelong at her. Well then...]

If that's fraud, then I get an honest question. Namely, if I had asked you to come with me, to shirk all your responsibilities and duties and whatnot for one shining day... One day for me to see to you that you have a nice time-

-Would you have come?

[And as symbolic of this, he's going to hold out his hand, not overhand but underhand. Will you take the hand]

[Oh. Well. That. Would have been a lot easier to answer more quickly if he hadn't held out his hand. She glances down at it for a long moment and then back up to his face and she can't put her hand in his. All the casual intimacies of the day, exchanged in the heat of the moment or allowed in the sudden rush... she can't deliberately take his hand. And it hurts that he'd offer.

Her brow furrows and Katara shakes her head, her hands planted on the railing at her sides.]

No. Probably not.

[The fingers in that hand slowly curl. His hand closes, not to a fist, but just... closes together before he opens them again as it fails to his side]

And you'd also say no if I said I'd want to make you a burrito. You'd also say no if I asked you on a date. Mmm. Maybe I'm the bad guy for asking though.

[She closes her eyes, grimacing lightly as if in pain.

And then she sighs. Her voice, when she speaks, is questioning to the point of almost being pleading.]

It doesn't have to be so complicated, does it?

[She opens her eyes.]

I won't go out on a date with you, because I won't lie to either of us about how I feel. And I won't - throw off all my responsibilities to spend the whole day with you.

[That's not something she'd really do for anyone, except possibly Aang or... someone who needed her. As she'd thought he had at various points during the day.]

But that doesn't mean we can't hang out, or spend part of the day together. Can't that be enough?

If this day was about me, it might be.

["for now."

There's a simple smile at play on his lips now, as he recovers from the initial no]

[Katara blinks as she processes that, and her voice raises incredulously at the end of her next question.]

You're saying you tricked me for me?

That's~ right. Really, for all I care, this day could have been shared with Shikamaru, or Alexis-chan, or hell, Luffy. Not a one of them would though, not a single damn one of them.

[He folds his arms behind his back. The last sentence of the above is muttered. He chooses his words carefully here, and speaks softly, slowly]

Your days are pretty full, Katara. Your life's even more full. True! I'm the cause of some of that fullness, but I thought I owed you just a show of simplicity. Eh, actually. Maybe you owed it to yourself. Or we all owed it? Hmmm...

No, actually, after last month, let's say "Luceti" owes it.

[Okay, just. Give her a moment to process that. It's obvious he's thought about this pretty intently, which makes sense - he had to plan to kidnap her.

Maybe one day, she wouldn't feel so far behind him. But that wasn't relevant. What he was saying was... hmm.]

But I choose to keep my life busy. I'm doing these things because I think that they're important, or because I enjoy them. You might say "Luceti" owes us a break, and maybe it does, but you don't get to choose what form that break for me will take - I do. It's my life and my choices.
