So White Day is supposed to be for repaying girls who give you something on Valentines, but what do you think the morality and dignity's at for giving out gifts on it without them having given you anything? Two days to figure that one out I guess.

Japanese holiday - girls give out their chocolate on Valentines, and guys repay the favor a month later.

Really? Sounds like a lot of pressure on the girls at first.

Isn't Valentine's always about the pressure of expressing one's feelings, though?

That's for the best. Though then you could give one back on May 14th, and then stretch it all the way around to next Valentine's Day -- but maybe that'd get a little old by the time next winter comes around.

I'd say that could be rather rude of the boy. After all, aren't girls supposed to give out chocolate to any reasonably close male acquaintances? Giving a return gift without having anything to be returning for is a very obvious way of insisting she forgot you when she shouldn't have. So you're placing both the blame and obligation on her.

Of course, this assumes that she's aware of Valentine's Day in the first place. If she's not, you can do most anything you please, really.

See, that was my worry! Right to the heart of the issue there - that if I were to do that, stigma against Valentines which exists here aside, I would be very presumptuous.

Valentine's Day was a creation of the card companies and candy companies to begin with.

I haven't heard of White Day before, but I'm pretty sure it isn't much different, since it's another day that doesn't mean anything besides getting to buy those for their loved ones, who will promptly eat them and/or eventually throw them out.

That's not a very romantic way to look at it.

On the contrary. If something has to be romantic, I'd rather it show some thought and some knowledge of what the other person would be more likely to appreciate. And I'd rather it not need a created holiday to remind me, or them.
